Femke Haccou

Femke Haccoû  Msc.(1981) is educated as spatial planner on bachelor level at the Saxion University for Professional Education in Deventer and as Landscape Architect at Wageningen University on master level.

After her master thesis on Dynamic Water Urbanism she continued tobe involved in research on this rather new form of Urbanism. She stayed connected to Alterra (research centre of Wageningen University) to explore the possibilities on water urbanism. Next to research she worked at Vondel Vastgoed (real estate) as Landscape Designer. The combination of research and practice is something Femke likes to achieve.

Haccoû Consulting & Design BV was founded in December 2007 by Femke together with Huibert en Tjeerd Haccoû. Next to Haccoû Consulting & Design BV Femke works at the City of Amsterdam, Department for Spatial Planning as Landscape Architect. She focuses the relatedness between levels of scales of spatial planning. Her current (2010) projects are:

-Research on Metropolitan Landscape, how does recreation work in larger landscapes around the city?

-Master plan and Quality plan of a new large recreational area Tuinen van West. This area will combine urban agriculture with ecology and recreation.

-Design of a natural playground, Jeugdland. The design of this playground is based on re-using green material from parks and stimulation of children to exercise in a natural surrounding.

- Design of floating lands along the Westside of Zeeburger island for a ecological connection between the south and north side of IJ river.

Femke participated in a internal course of the City of Amsterdam. This course deepened the Amsterdam planning methodology from European scale to street level.

Next to her working experience for the City of Amsterdam. Femke was a member of the Program Committee of the 51st World Congress of IFLA (International Federation of Landscape Architects) in Apeldoorn (NL)  summer 2007.

At  the spring break conference of IFHP (International Federation of Housing and Planning)  May 2007 in Lisbon Femke was involved in the MILU working party as workshop assistant. She is still involved in the MILU methodology. Via Haccoû Consulting & Design BV she assists working parties in an international context.

Femke is an active member of Rio Nuevo! a knowledge network of young planning professionals in the Netherlands. Rio Nuevo is a platform that creates a young and new sound in today’s planning issues through debate and articles. www.rionuevo.nl

Next to her passion for Landscape Architecture and Planning, Femke’s passion is cooking. She started a foodblog in December 2009, femkiefood.blogspot.com.
