In the framework of the CapaCity programme, the 11th Implementation Lab Workshop
following the CUPA methodology (cooperative urban planning approaches) took place from Wednesday 29th  of June until Friday 1st of July 2016 in Wrocław, Poland.

In the framework of the CUPA programme, the 9th Implementation Lab Workshop was held from Tuesday 8th of December till Friday 11th of December 2015 in Gdańsk, Poland.
The preparatory visit, which was made, resulted in a specification of the case study for Gdańsk Implementation Lab.
The Gdańsk Development Office presented three potential study cases for the CUPA Implementation Lab of which one was chosen.

The area concerned by this project is situated at the west side of Charleroi, and covers 4 districts (7,2 km_ and 12.500 inh.). One of the main goals of the project is to keep in place and to increase the population in the City of Charleroi, to avoid the lost of population to the outskirts and the decrease of mixity.

 

The 3 mains axes of action are to:
- upgrade the quality of the environment, degraded by the old heavy industries,
- upgrade the quality of life of the population, who is leaving the area,
- create the redevelopment of the area, with respect to the cultural and industrial heritage.

The Vienna Danube Island is first a flood protection and second a leisure, pleasure and a man made ecological reserve. It combines severals functions in time and space. The northern and southern part are nature habitats, the centre part is more urban. Facilities: 
restaurants (22 with over 3000 seats); swimming areas with shallow water and beaches; a wide streched path work for cyclists, hikers, joggers and skaters; barbecue spots; play grounds; sporting grounds; bike and boat rentals; windsurfing school; water chute; water ski lift; trampolins; sailing boat marinas; rowing boat regatta area incl. all infrastructure like e.g. tribunes.

The planning & redeveloptment process In 1998 eight development companies interested in rebuilding this 6.3-hectare site neighbourhood nor its administration would allow the erection of simple tenement buildings. Only an adequate and fully compatible alternative to the factory would be acceptable. Accordingly, the primary redevelopment goal remains the creation of a new neighbourhood quarter that contains a balanced mix of residences, employment and recreational potential. Redevelopment of this site remains a unique opportunity to create a new and improved image for the district.
